AmCham Mongolia hosts His Excellency Jargaltulga Erdenebat, Prime Minister of Mongolia for his First Formal Engagement with the International Business Community
ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia – The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Mongolia hosted its September Monthly Meeting with His Excellency Jargaltulga Erdenebat, Prime Minister of Mongolia, on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 at the Shangri-La Ulaanbaatar Hotel. The Honorable Jennifer Zimdahl Galt, U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia also attended the meeting as a guest of honor. The meeting was the first formal engagement between the Prime Minister of Mongolia and the international business community since his appointment.
The meeting convened over 100 attendees, including AmCham members, foreign ambassadors, country managers of the IFI’s, leaders of foreign business groups, and other leading representatives from the local and international private sector. Guests heard from Prime Minister Erdenebat about the new Government’s Action Plan and efforts to improve investors’ confidence; which was followed by a Q&A session with the Prime Minster and his Economic Policy Adviser Mr. N. Enkhbayar.
Prime Minister Erdenebat said in his remarks that, “The Government of Mongolia has a good tradition of cooperation and dialogue with AmCham Mongolia. We are committed to continue our cooperation with you on tackling challenges facing Mongolia’s business environment.” He also reiterated that the government is, “Giving high importance to intensifying economic activities in Mongolia through regaining investors’ confidence and establishing a favorable investment environment.”
“Since Mongolia’s new government took office, my colleagues and I at the U.S. Embassy have expressed the hope that it would partner with AmCham to promote free enterprise and the revitalization of the Mongolian economy,” noted U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Zimdahl Galt during her remarks. She went on to commend the Government of Mongolia for its “Suspension of a certificate of origin requirement for Mongolian and foreign importers, a re-examination of exit bans, and a commitment to implement the U.S.-Mongolia Transparency Agreement.”
AmCham Mongolia’s Chairman Jay Liotta addressed Prime Minister Erdenebat saying that, “AmCham Mongolia strongly advocates for and stands ready to support the Government of Mongolia in improving the business environment for all businesses.” He echoed the Ambassador’s sentiment and noted the importance of the full implementation of the Transparency Agreement between the United States and Mongolia.
