Oyu Tolgoi’s Board of Directors Appoints New CEO
The Oyu Tolgoi Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Munkhsukh Sukhbaatar as Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 February 2026, following a rigorous international search.
With more than 25 years of leadership experience across mining, aviation, investment, and financial services, Munkhsukh began his Oyu Tolgoi career in 2012 before joining Rio Tinto in 2015, where he strengthened his expertise in stakeholder engagement and major project development. He currently serves as Managing Director, Growth and Development Asia Pacific, overseeing Rio Tinto’s regional copper portfolio and key partnerships, including progress on Australia’s Winu copper-gold project.
Oyu Tolgoi Board Chairman Sean Hinton said the company is entering a pivotal phase of growth and highlighted Munkhsukh’s deep knowledge of Oyu Tolgoi and proven global leadership.
