About AmCham Mongolia

Founded fifteen years ago, the American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia (AmCham Mongolia) is the preeminent foreign business association in the country, serving as the essential bridge between the global business community and Mongolia’s dynamic and rapidly evolving economy. Deeply committed to free enterprise, open markets, and a private-sector driven economy, AmCham’s membership is open to registered businesses actively engaged in Mongolia. The organization champions policies that make it easier to do business and has grown into a respected voice in facilitating investment, and strengthening the U.S.–Mongolia commercial relationship.

As AmCham Mongolia enters a new era, the Board of Directors is seeking an extraordinary Chief Executive Officer to build on this legacy — deepening the organization’s impact, broadening its membership, and elevating its influence both in-country and internationally.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead one of Asia’s most influential business advocacy organizations at a pivotal moment. The incoming CEO will be a confident public figure, a skilled organizational leader, and a seasoned navigator of both business and government at the highest levels — in Mongolia and in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

1. Organizational Leadership

Lead, inspire, and empower a high-performing team — including the Director of Policy, Director of Events, Director of Communications, and key support staff — fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and mission-driven purpose.

2. Membership Growth and Retention

Aggressively recruit new member companies while deepening engagement with and delivering value for the existing membership base. Serve as AmCham Mongolia’s most compelling ambassador to the business community.

3. Business and Government Engagement

AmCham works to make it easier to do business in Mongolia. The CEO will maintain a deep and current understanding of Mongolia’s business landscape, regulatory environment, and government priorities. Cultivate productive relationships with key stakeholders across both sectors will be essential.

4. U.S.–Mongolia Bridge-Building

Actively link American businesses and investors to opportunities in Mongolia — identifying projects, facilitating introductions, and promoting Mongolia as a destination for U.S. commercial and strategic engagement.

5. Washington, D.C. Advocacy and Engagement

Build and steward relationships with U.S. government stakeholders, Congress, and relevant federal agencies to champion a strong bilateral relationship and advance the interests of AmCham members and the broader U.S. business community in Mongolia.

6. Financial Stewardship

Manage AmCham Mongolia’s finances with discipline and strategic foresight — ensuring the organization operates within its means, grows its reserve funds annually, and builds long-term financial resilience.

7. Public Representation and Communications

Serve as the face and voice of AmCham Mongolia — representing the organization with distinction in media appearances, public events, and high-level meetings. Communicate with clarity, credibility, and authority on behalf of the organization and its members.

Qualifications and Attributes

• Proven executive leadership experience in a membership, advocacy, trade, or business association environment — or equivalent senior leadership in business, government, or international affairs.

• Deep familiarity with Mongolia’s economy, political landscape, and business environment. Professional experience in or with Mongolia is strongly preferred.

• Established relationships — or the demonstrated ability to build them — with relevant stakeholders in Washington, DC, including the U.S. government, Congress, and multilateral institutions.

• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage credibly with C-suite executives, senior government officials, diplomats, and investors.

• Outstanding public presence — a commanding and polished communicator equally comfortable on a media panel, at a state banquet, or before a congressional audience.

• Sound financial acumen, with experience managing organizational budgets, building reserves, and making strategic resource allocation decisions.

• Genuine passion for the U.S.–Mongolia bilateral relationship and a commitment to the mission of advancing American business interests in Mongolia.

• Proficiency in English required. Mongolian language skills are a significant advantage. Additional languages relevant to the international business community are a plus.
