AmCham Mongolia Co-Organizes Roundtable on Food Supplements vs. Drugs Regulation in Mongolia
The discussion brought together legislators, regulators and industry representatives to review the sector’s legal and regulatory framework.

MP Ganmaa Davaasambuu, M.D., Ph.D., Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Development and Social Policy and Vice Chair of the Mongolia–U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group, opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of balancing legislative support for importers with the need to ensure public health and safety.
The International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA) delivered an informative online presentation on “The Role of Supplements in Nutrition.” Representatives from Amway and Herbalife shared industry perspectives, highlighting global and local scientific studies and discussing opportunities for regional cooperation to adopt best practices in regulating food supplements.
Ms. T. Munkhtuul, Director of the Medicine Registration Department at the Medicines and Medical Device Regulatory Agency, presented an overview of the registration process for food supplements and recent updates to the legal framework.
The discussion featured active engagement between MP Ganmaa, specialists, and participants, who exchanged views and addressed key questions. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration among government bodies, regulatory authorities, and importers to ensure the availability of safe, high-quality products for Mongolian consumers. Today’s dialogue laid the foundation for continued cooperation among all stakeholders in this important sector.
